You first Mrs. Brandi Y. Starr :)
Well… I’ve been planning events for as long as I can remember for family, friends, work, myself etc. I’ve always been known as an awesome hostess and extremely organized and detail oriented. Throughout the years my friends, family, co-workers, and peers encouraged me to venture into the world of event planning but I had 1,000 excuses why I couldn’t or shouldn’t. It wasn’t until I began planning my own wedding, which affectionately became known as “Starrdom” did I give it serious consideration. While interviewing potential day-of wedding coordinators two of the interviewees expressed how impressed they were with my organization and unique details for the wedding and asked the question “Why aren’t you doing this professionally?” Once I became Mrs. Starr and the wedding planning was over planning for Starr Studded Weddings & Events began.

I am one of those people who has so many ideas that sometimes it is hard to focus and stick with just one. So because I was committed to this I threw together a website, got some business cards, and started putting the name out there and meeting people. I spent the first six months really trying to “figure myself out” and find my niche. Then in October 2009 I re-launched with my current website, a strong cohesive brand and a marketing plan. Year 1 for Starr Studded has been phenomenal and I’ve met some great people and received stellar feedback from my clients.
My inner clique of friends had been encouraging me for years to start my own PR company because I was always supporting and promoting others. In addition I had several wonderful corporate marketing jobs where of course the corporation reaped the financial benefits of my hard work. One day last March after having a particularly stressful work day I decided now or never and chose now. It was truly the best decision I ever made in my adult life and I have never ever looked back!!!
Picture this: Your daughter has constantly been sick, visiting the hospital, getting diagnosed with RSV at around 1 and then Reactive Airway Disease, complete with nebulizers and inhalers. She then becomes hospitalized with RSV and Pneumonia. Then your 3 1/2 month old son becomes hospitalized in intensive care, also diagnosed with RSV. Both children contracted the RSV in daycare.

I was so dedicated to my previous jobs (worked two simultaneously) that I took limited maternity leave and had the kids come to the office until they were old enough for daycare. I busted my ass to help other people make money and my kids were suffering because of it. I started Happy and Healthy Mom.Com right in my son's hospital room using the crappy keyboard and internet because I knew that I needed to find a way to work from home, and work for myself. It is a good thing too because what did I get for all of my hard work? I was told that I was no longer needed (right after my son got out of the hospital). Plus, they tried to fight my unemployment. Of course I won my case. I decided that I would do anything in my power to be able to support myself and my family, so that I would never have to slave for someone else to get rich. My inspiration for the site originally came to me while I was pregnant with my son and the hospitalization of both my children was the final nudge for me to take the plunge. I am glad to say that my children have not gotten rsv since then, and my daughter has only had to use her nebulizer once. If I do need childcare for meetings and such, I rely on friends and would even use an in-home nanny or babysitter before I ever bring them back to daycare.
Heather that is a truly moving story and what being a momprenuer is all about. I was fortunate to have wonderful daycare experiences with my son but the reality is that many moms have a similar experience to yours but continue to be stuck in the cycle of depending on a daycare provider.

I decided to go out on my own so that could control my business and money. I was already working from home and building my business but wanted less stress. It is easier for my to deal with Disney and other suppliers on my own and now I also dont have to share my money with anyone. I have learned so much in the past year and it was so worth it.
I nursed with all of my children, and was very comfortable with nursing. I didn't feel the need to hide or be ashamed. Unfortunley not all women feel that way, either they are a little shy or the people with them are uncomfortable with their nursing.
To nurse in public you have to have a cover, all Moms need a diaper bag, but I was tired of carrying so much. So, my girlfirend and I created the Nurser's Purse. It's a great Nursing bag that has the nursing cover attached and holds everything a Nursing Momma would need.
With needing to market my bag and wanting to promote other Mom's taht make their own product I created Smart Mommy Shopping. All products are Mom made and in the most eco-friendly way possible.

Well mine is not as good as many of yours I must shamefully say. (I know it is not a competition) I started mine because I was told I couldn't do this. I have a hard time accepting someone else telling me I cant. I continued because I saw a need for what I was doing in an environment where 500 other people were doing it differently in my area. I go further because I believe in bringing passion to everything I do.
