Girl Geek Dinners Miami Kickoff Event: Let's Rawk the Web - A Manifesto

Finally, Girl Geek Dinners http://girlgeekdinners.com has come to Miami!  Girl Geek Dinners is a global organization serving to provide networking opportunities for women in the technology field.  At Miami's kickoff event, we will hear from Denise Jacobs, a web solutions consultant based in Miami, Florida.  Denise is a writer, speaker, designer, and educator on many things web. She is author of The CSS Detective Guide, and is a co-author for InterAct with Web Standards: A Holistic Approach to Web Design.  She will be presenting the following at our kickoff event on Tuesday, July 26.
 
"Let's Rawk The Web - A Manifesto"
Many tech conference organizers and attendees agree there is a lack of diversity of speakers: both of women and people of color. While some conferences support a proactive diversity policy, the common lament industry-wide is the pool of candidates just isn't large enough to draw from. However, this is an issue of visibility, not viability. We need to RAWK the web: to become more visible, promote our achievements, and make ourselves known as the rockstars we truly are. Let's talk about some pointers, practices, and inspiration from those who are rawking the web and learn from their successes and missteps.
 
NOTE:  Although this is a female-oriented event, we still love men & want them to come, if they are invited by a woman that is attending or are interested in the issue. 
 
LOCATION:  The event will be held at our sponsor, MiamiShared (www.miamishared.com), at 900 Biscayne Blvd. in downtown Miami.
